TIMMY BROWN NAMED TO THE BALL STATE FOOTBALL ALL-CENTURY TEAM
Timmy Brown has enjoyed an outstanding fall this year. In September, he was honored as one of 182 nominees for the 2025 Pro Football Hall of Fame Seniors Category. On November 10, he was inducted into the Indiana Football Hall of Fame.
Most recently, on Friday, November 22, he was named one of three running backs on the Ball State University Football All-Century Team!

TIMMY BROWN INDIANA FOOTBALL HALL OF FAME INDUCTION CEREMONY
On Sunday, November 10, at Hoagies & Hops in Indianapolis, Timmy Brown was inducted into the Indiana Football Hall of Fame for his contributions to Indiana football.
RUNNING AGAINST THE GRAIN AT BALL STATE HOME FOOTBALL GAMES
The book will be available for purchase at all Ball State Football home games during the 2024 season. On the Saturday football games, keep your eyes peeled for co-author Roy Weaver, who will be there signing books.

FARMER’S MARKET AND FOOTBALL GAME – SEPTEMBER 7, 2024
Co-author Roy Weaver had a very busy day last Saturday (September 7)! In the morning he signed books at the Minnetrista Museum & Gardens Farmer’s Market. Muncie local Jules Carter stopped by and purchased a book on Saturday at the Farmer’s Market.
In the afternoon he headed to Ball State University Scheumann Stadium where the Cardinals won their opening game against Missouri State 42-34. At Charlietown Tailgating before the football game Roy met with Terry West (left) and R.J. Johnson (right). R.J. purchased a book for his son, Caden “Smoke” Johnson, a linebacker on the team.
EB AND BERTHA C BALL CENTER – AUGUST 27, 2024
On Tuesday, August 27, co-authors Roy Weaver and Shawn Sriver shared the story of Indiana native and Ball State University and Philadelphia Eagles football star Timmy Brown at the EB and Bertha C Ball Center. They detailed Timmy’s journey from an orphanage in rural Indiana to his life as a professional football player, movie and television star, and singer to a rapt audience.
Rhonda Ward, Director of Diversity and Assistant Director of the Muncie Area Career Center, is just one of many who visited with the co-authors at the book signing after the presentation.
MUNCIE SUNRISE ROTARY CLUB – MAY 24, 2024
On Friday, May 24, 2024, co-author Roy Weaver along with his wife Marilyn, were welcomed at a Muncie Sunrise Rotary Club meeting. Roy presented information about the amazing life of former Ball State Football player Timmy Brown and shared his book.
FRIENDS OF BRACKEN LIBRARY PANEL – APRIL 4, 2024
On Thursday, April 4, 2024, co-author Roy Weaver participated in a panel at the Friends of the Alexander M. Bracken Library Dinner at the Ball State University Alumni Center in Muncie, Indiana.
During the panel discussion, Roy spoke on how invaluable Bracken Library was while researching Timmy Brown’s time in Muncie, when he was a star football player at Ball State.
VISITING A LEGEND, DETROIT, MICHIGAN – MARCH 17, 2024
Co-author Roy Weaver visited with Dionne Warwick backstage at her concert at the Music Hall Center for the Performing Arts in Detroit, Michigan on Sunday, March 17. Warwick was a great friend of Timmy Brown after they met in the 1960’s at a recording session.
YARD HOUSE RESTAURANT, RANCHO MIRAGE, CALIFORNIA – JANUARY 30, 2024
Co-author Roy Weaver met Dovid Gawartin, manager at the Yard House Restaurant in Rancho Mirage, California on Sunday, January 28, 2024 while meeting with Timmy Brown’s family. Weaver learned that Dovid loves football and remembered Timmy, as Timmy frequently ate there with friends. Weaver stopped by the restaurant on January 30, and signed and gave him a copy of Running Against The Grain.
FAMILY GATHERING, RANCHO MIRAGE, CALIFORNIA – JANUARY 28, 2024
On Sunday, January 28, 2024, co-author Roy Weaver, his wife Marilyn, and daughter Jennifer watched the Chiefs vs. Ravens game at the Yard House in Rancho Mirage, California. While there, they enjoyed visiting with Timmy Brown’s son Sean Brown, his partner Jennifer VanCamp, and their children Ella and Leo.
A FAMILY AFFAIR AT THE PALM SPRINGS, CALIFORNIA KIWANIS – JANUARY 16, 2024
On Tuesday, January 16, 2024, it was special to have Timmy Brown’s former wife Lee Hartley, and their son Sean Brown join co-author Roy Weaver at the Palm Springs, California Kiwanis meeting at Rick’s Restaurant to share his story – the first time we have had the pleasure of their participation. Their insights, memories, and love provided a touching, memorable conversation that will long be remembered by all who attended.

GAME DAY AT HOAGIES AND HOPS IN INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA – NOVEMBER 5, 2023
On Sunday, November 5, 2023, co-author Roy Weaver and wife Marilyn rooted with Philadelphia Eagles fans at Hoagies and Hops in Indianapolis as the Eagles defeated the Dallas Cowboys 28-23.
Owner Kristina Mazza led fans in celebrating an Eagles touchdown, then got a photo with Weaver and the book. Gil and Marcia Lomax share their joy at having the winning raffle ticket for a free, signed copy of the book.
Indianapolis sports commentator and podcaster Derek Schultz, of the show Query & Schultz stopped by and picked up a signed copy of the book.
If you’re looking for somewhere to watch the Eagles take on the Buffalo Bills this Sunday, head to Hoagies & Hops for delicious food and a great time.

Another beautiful day at McCullogh Park in Muncie, Indiana was spent sharing the story of Timmy Brown at the 10th Anniversary 2023 Muncie Homecoming Festival “Back Together Again.” Gina Edwards, the daughter of Bill Butler and the niece of Grayce Butler Shadd – both friends of Timmy Brown, stopped by to visit.
Greg Williams, Ball State alum and noted author of Life On The Color Line, reminisced with Marilyn about the time they both were attending Muncie Central High School along with memories of Brown.
BLACK LEGACY PROJECT OF WAYNE COUNTY, INDIANA EVENT – JUNE 25, 2023
At the end of June 2023, co-author Roy Weaver spent a wonderful afternoon at the Wayne County Historical Museum in Richmond, Indiana, celebrating the Black Legacy Project of Wayne County.
He shared stories with people who knew Timmy Brown, including Timmy’s childhood and longtime friend Harold Jones. Harold shared Timmy’s love of music, and was the jazz drummer for both Count Basie and Tony Bennett.
At this event, which was an opening for the Black Legacy Project exhibit: “Our Legacy: From 1800 and Beyond,” Roy also had copies of “Running Against the Grain: The Story of Philadelphia Eagle and Movie Star Timmy Brown” available for purchase and to sign.
